Jason Chan, a retired counsellor, an ordinary human being, decided to share his extraordinary life experience. He is one of my dearest friends, whom I have known for decades, and is a person that I admire.

The World of Lun

PREFACE

by Kelly Ng (Chief Operational Officer, SUCCESS, 2013)

April 2013

I have known Jason Chan for almost thirty years as a schoolmate and colleague. I am very happy to know that the publication of the book “Lun's World” which actualized Jason's wish, that is, encouraged parents of autistic children by his own experience. Jason was not new to many residents of Vancouver. He as a social worker often speaks on family issues through audio and visual media. He also helped many youths who felt lost and parents who were emotionally overloaded. Yet adversity arising from his family was not as well known. He never brought along his hardship to his work during the extensive period we worked together. There was a time that Lun demanded dad to drive him to supermarkets after the operation hour. Confirming that the store was closed with his own eyes, he settled down finally. Then Jason, already exhausted, could spare time for the working reports, and restarted the following working day in high spirit with full attention to the stories from youths and families. Apart from this laughter was brought to youths through his humorous speech. He was highly regarded for his devotion to work and the priority he set for the well-being of the clients.

Jason is helpful and positive. However, starting a few years ago he required regular treatment in hospital for cancer. Yet his enthusiasm for life, love for his family, and care for his clients have touched deeply those colleagues who knew him well. They responded spontaneously after knowing the publication of “Lun's World”. Upon the announcement, community support came as snowflakes.

I hope the book “Lun's World” can serve as an important reference for parents, social workers, policy makers and various kinds of people in the community. As well as it brings positive effect to the healthy growth of autistic children with increasing understanding for them and the mental journey of the parents.
